SModcast Report - Crimson Mystical Mages 2 coming in April

As everyone knows, I'm a huge fan of SModcast, and all the other podcasts on the SModcast Podcast Network.  Well, I was a bit behind on listening to this weeks episode of SModcast because I was too busy listening to some other ones, including Giant Fire Breathing Robot, The Tome Show, and some of the other SModcast network stuff (finall all caught up after being a year behind the times...). 

The biggest news of this week's SModcast was the report that SModcast, with Stitcher, will now be getting their own internet radio station.  Starting some time very, very soon, SModcast is going to be playing 24/7.  How awesome is that?  I am very, very on board with this.  I have trouble getting enough SModcast and I'm going to be way into this in a big way (I hope that some of their daily live stuff is going to be repeated/saved so that people can listen to it later).

Other than that huge announcement, they did tease the newest episode of Crimson Mystical Mages; that show is pretty much the only excuse I have to really talk about these podcasts here on my blog.  I have talked about Crimson Mystical Mages some times in the past, but if you aren't familiar, Crimson Mystical Mages is the Kevin Smith crews version of Dungeons & Dragons.  They play their game on stage in front of a live audience.  It is D&D combined with adult jokes and comedy.  It's a bit mocking of the whole hobby, but considering that one of their own has been a D&D player for several years now (I'm looking at you Jason Mewes), it all comes off as in pretty good fun.

The next episode of the show looks like it will be coming out in April.  They will be podcasting this one live from the John Lovitz comedy club; that means a significant increase in the size of the venue and it also means that the entire audience will probably be drunk half way through the show (or when the show starts... you never can tell).  Apparently, this upcoming episode is going to have the story written largely by Scott Mosier, but the one to follow may actually be written by the only D&D player in the group.  Either way, I know I'm really looking forward to this and I really, really wish that I could actually fly from Japan out to listen to this live, but that's not about to happen, so I'm stuck here and I'll be listening to it on my iTunes as soon as it hits the iTunes store. 

Keep 'em coming!  Can't wait for S.I.R. - a montly Crimson Mystical Mages would be, in Kevin Smith's own words, a massive cauldron of win.

Crimson Mystical Mages Was Awesome

I have posted several times in the past about SModcast. When it comes to podcasting, they pretty much have it down. Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier, and the rest of the View Askew crew not only have about 5 podcasts that have gone to #1 on iTunes, but they also have the world's only podcasting theater - "The SModcastle". If you aren't listening to their podcasts, you are missing out on some seriously demented and hilarious good times.

But, that is not what I am going to talk about today! Today, I had to write to say that last night I finally had the chance to listen to - Live from SModcastle #8 - Crimson Mystical Mages Chapter 1: The Adventures Of SMiddle Earth. This post will be pretty short, in all honesty, because I can't post up even 1% of the podcast summary here or my site will need an age checker. It is pretty much the most sexually explicit dialogue I have ever heard from these guys (or any other people on the planet for that matter).

If you are not offended by horrible sexually explicit language than you will absolutely love this podcast. Actually, by now, you are probably either of fan of Jay and Silent Bob or you aren't. With this podcast, nothing has really changed so much, other than the fact that they are now getting together to play a very strange (and actually somewhat old school) version of D&D where Kevin Smith takes on the role of the "Cellar Fella" (their version of the DM) and leads his players, Jason Mewes, Scott Mosier, and Malcom Ingram, on a quest through SMiddle earth.

I don't want to, and don't think I can give away much more than that. I highly encourage you to listen to this, the first part, in their adventure to save a poor, helpless virgin from the clutches of an evil dragon, and in the process liberate one village from am evil high priest and dark lord.

Crimson Mystical Mages Goes Live!!

Warning - This podcast does not fall under my typical any audience policy.

Since I follow Scott Mosier and Kevin Smith on Twitter, I just got their Tweet that Crimson Mystical Mages, their own personal version of D&D has been podcasted at their SModcastle. I have been a really big fan of these guys for years. They consistently produce a very high quality podcast and I can't wait to get back to L.A. to go see them live.

I posted in the past that they had brought up D&D and MMORPG's in the past, but a lot of the time they make fun of it quite a bit... until recently. Jason Mewes has reported that he uses the D&D Character Builder quite a bit (we have yet to find out whether he still uses the Character Builder now that it has gone totally online...).

Several weeks ago, they decided that they were going to have to do their own D&D session ala Penny Arcade and the WotC crew, but they also decided that their game was going to have to come with the typical Jay & Silent Bob charm.

Well the day we have all been waiting for has finally come. The Crimson Mystical Mages Podcast is available for Download at SModcastle ( http://smodcast.com/livefromsmodcastle/). Here is the description of the podcast from their website:

Like I mentioned at the top of this post. You can probably guess, just based on who is doing the podcast, that it won't be kid friendly, or something you want to listen to at work, but it is sure to be a barrel of funny for all of us RPG lovers. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet, but you will be hearing my commentary on the podcast once they have it finished.

Did the entire RPGBN miss SModcast #144 Dance 10, Move 3???

I don't know how this went unnoticed. Kevin Smith has started talking about his new project, Crimson Mystical Mages - their humorous Dungeons and Dragons-esq podcast to come. I can't wait. They must do this. It would be too awesome. Their humor, plust some great fantasy good times, I would be all over that.

I would also volunteer to write that source book.
